Benedikt grew up in Munich, Germany and obtained his BSc and MSc at ETH Zurich in Switzerland working on halogen bonding capsules and the total synthesis of a polyhydroxylated alkaloid. After a 6-month internship on the synthesis and evaluation of novel macrocyclic antibiotics at Roche in Basel, Switzerland, he returned to ETH in 2017 for his PhD in the group of Prof. Erick M. Carreira. There, he worked on the development of palladium-catalyzed C-H functionalization reactions of alkenes and allenes.
Benedikt joined the group of Prof. Timothy M. Swager at MIT as an SNSF postdoctoral fellow in 2022 to work on the synthesis and application of porous organic polymers.
