Maggie completed her undergraduate studies at the City College of New York, where she performed research with Prof. Barbara Zajc on the development of an efficient method for the synthesis of phenyl (a-fluoro)vinyl sulfones via Julia olefination. After receiving her B.S. degree in 2008, she went to University of Pennsylvania and joined the research group of Prof. Jeffrey Bode. In 2010, Maggie moved with the Bode group to ETH Zürich in Switzerland. Her PhD research focused on the synthesis, properties and applications of shapeshifting bullvalenes. Maggie joined the Swager group for her postdoctoral studies in 2014. Her current research interests focus on covalent functionalization of carbon nanomaterials, the investigation of covalent dynamics on graphene and development of gas sensors.
