Rafaela received her Bachelor's Degree from the Department of Chemistry at University of São Carlos in São Carlos City, Brazil and remained there for graduate school, where she worked with Prof Luiz H. C. Mattoso on synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles and electrospun polymeric nanofibers for chemiresistive sensors. During her graduate school, she also conducted research on electrospun ceramic nanofibers as visiting scholar under the supervision of Prof Yu Lei at University of Connecticut (UCONN) in Storrs, US. After her PhD, she joined the Nanotechnology National Laboratory for Agriculture (LNNA) at Embrapa, São Carlos – Brazil, as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Dr. Daniel S. Correa and more recently (August, 2019) she joined Swager group as a visiting scholar/postdoctoral fellow to work with RFID wireless devices for gas sensing.
