Sam was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2017, he received his B.S in Chemistry and B.A. in German from the University of Texas at Austin. As an undergrad, he worked in the lab of Prof. Stephen Martin, where he worked on the development of novel cyclohexyne precursors. He also spent the fall of 2015 in the lab of Prof. Helma Wennemers at ETH Zurich, working on the development of peptide catalysts for asymmetric synthesis. Sam joined the Swager lab in the fall of 2017, where he will be working on the development of anion sensors.
