Before joining MIT Emily was a buyer and manager for a small gift shop in Somerville.  She is an expert seamstress and knitter and worked for a few years running her own clothing line and sewing costumes for theater companies.  She graduated from Boston University in 2010 where she studied Art History and Psychology.  Most of her free time is spent hiking, going to museums, and working on too many craft projects at once.
